Frequency Domain Crosstalk Analysis Utilizing Network Matrices

Abstract—Increasingly complex PCB and IC geometries along with high frequency analog and digital signals demand quick crosstalk analysis for arbitrarily complex structures. Three dimensional planar electromagnetic simulators combined with network matrices analyzed in the frequency domain are well suited to accomplish this task. Methodologies of evaluating crosstalk are presented. In particular, these methods are applied to arbitrarily loaded complex n-port networks. Crosstalk performance is evaluated in Z and SParameters through a variety of techniques designed to provide both a computationally exact solution, and intuition building approximations. An example is presented to illuminate the process of using frequency domain network parameters to obtain time domain results.
